At Sherman Oaks Community Charter School, K-6 Dual Language Immersion English/Spanish, we believe dual language objectives are best accomplished in an environment where students are seen as unique individuals; where they actively engage in the learning process; where questions are more important than answers; where diversity is valued and nurtured; where kindness and compassion are expected; and where students share in the responsibility of shaping the community in which they learn and grow literate in two languages, their mother tongue and a second language.

For some students English is their mother tongue, for others Spanish is their mother tongue, others are learning a third language and others come to our school already embracing two languages and two cultures, yet for all students and their families immersion in both languages, cultures and literacy is their goal.

Our mission is to support the potential and promise of each student as they learn academically and socially in English and Spanish. This mission is made real in a rigorous academic environment that embraces each student's learning skills and supports age-appropriate, challenging work through differentiated instructional methods and opportunities to engage in oral language and creating an understanding of new knowledge. We value all the contributions our students make: in the classroom, in their work within the school community and beyond.

We measure progress toward our mission by our students' success in leaving Sherman Oaks as competent and confident learners and wonderful people. We are proud of each student's ability to successfully meet the challenges on the educational journey.
