Sherman Oaks Dual Language Immersion School

Fostering Sociocultural Competence

Sherman Oaks Dia de Los Muertos assembly promotes sociocultural competence as one of their guiding principles

One of the guiding principles of effective dual immersion schools is sociocultural competence. Learning about and celebrating events such as Dia de los Muertos is one way in which Sherman Oaks celebrates diversity and develops the asset of cultural pride. At Sherman Oaks, the school staff, families, and the community work closely together to systematically provide experiences such as this event where Aztec Dancers gave a presentation and shared stories that teach the history behind the holiday.
