Sherman Oaks Dual Language Immersion School

Message from the Principal / Un Mensaje del Director

An update about leadership decisions for the coming school year

Dear Sherman Oaks Community:

It is with mixed emotions that I communicate to you that I will be leaving my role as the Principal of Sherman Oaks at the end of June. I will be forever grateful and honored to have joined and learned from our students, staff, colleagues and community. It makes me feel different emotions to think of how quickly  my tenure at this special school has gone by and how much we accomplished.  Together, our team re-established our school’s mission, strengthened our dual language program, and created a place where staff and families work together for the benefit of students.

I am happy to share that I have been offered an opportunity that doesn’t present itself very often; I have accepted the position of Associate Superintendent of Education Services at the San Mateo County Office of Education. In this role, I will be able to work with schools and districts in the implementation of instructional systems to meet the educational needs of all students. I will take the many learnings from Sherman Oaks and CUSD and apply them at a larger scale!

With the continued support from Superintendent Viramontez, I know that our new principal will continue leading the good work at our school with a smooth transition. I have made myself available to give support to the new Sherman Oaks team as they feel the need.

Once a Sherman Oaks Aguila, we are always family!

Muchas gracias por todo. I will visit soon to continue to experience the rich cultural events at our school.

Sincerely,

Marco Chavez, Principal
Sherman Oaks School

A Message from Dr. Shelly Viramontez, Campbell Union School District Superintendent

We are all saddened at Principal Marco Chavez’ departure, yet we are also proud that in his next venture as an Associate Superintendent he will continue to make a positive impact in education. He has certainly made a positive impact at Sherman Oaks and our district during his time with us. Under his leadership, the school’s mission, team and program have been strengthened and re-energized for the benefit of the students, staff and families.

Something Mr. Chavez also did well is co-lead. He and Mr. Viramontes were certainly a team in their approach to leading and supporting the school. For that reason, we know the school will continue to thrive as it completes its growth to be a TK-8th grade Dual Immersion school.

Because of the co-leadership, Mr. Viramontes is ready to step into the role of Principal for the 2021-22 school year. He has been an integral part of the great work being done at Sherman Oaks. This consistency of leadership will make for a smoother transition.

We are working to fill the Assistant Principal position soon.
