6th grade students' ability to present in their second language speaks to the culture of trust and community building they have established. This was recently reflected in the 6th grade presentations about African American artists, athletes, historical figures, and influential figures

African Americans have been responsible for the creation of many music genres. During an end-of-the-month assembly students learned about the creation of steel drums and also the many music genres that have been created by African Americans that have contributed to the music that we hear today. This assembly was a great representation of the collaboration between parents and staff as well as the school’s values of multiculturalism.

 Sherman Oaks seventh graders engaged in hands-on STEAM activities near downtown San Jose last week. The 7th grade visit included watching the “Dream Big” IMAX film about engineering around the world. They also participated in the exhibit where they learned the basic physics of roller coasters and collaborated to build prototypes.

Auditions for the Sherman Oaks Got Talent Show will be beginning on January 9th and will continue until February 13th at Sherman Oaks. The Sherman Oaks staff and families are highly anticipating this event on February 10th, where families can enjoy a dinner and an evening of student performances. Student art work will be displayed on the walls of our multi-use room. Performances this evening will include songs that students have learned in ukulele class and also performances from students participating in our mariachi program.

Each year Bay Area Parent readers vote on the best parenting resources in the Bay Area. In the area of International and Bilingual Education, Sherman Oaks received a bronze level of recognition for best language immersion schools located in the Silicon Valley. Sports can bring people together and the World Cup soccer games have been no exception to this at Sherman Oaks. An array of students from TK to 8th grade have been excited about, and attentively following, the World Cup hosted in Qatar this year. During lunch time, World Cup games are aired and available for all students to watch in the multi-use building. It has been great to see students of all grade levels excited and voluntarily coming together for a common interest.

Please join us for our Sherman Oaks Holiday Breakfast on 12/10/22 at 9:00am in the cafeteria (MU). Breakfast will be provided along with some holiday activities, crafts, games, and music. The PTC has also organized a food and clothing drive. Bring in your unwanted items to be donated to families in need beginning Monday, December 5th thru Tuesday, December 13. . Items will be collected in students’ classrooms and will be organized and distributed by the PTC.
