Our school uses an electronic news system to send weekly information home to families. This system allows parents and guardians to receive via email the kind of weekly information that used to be in student backpacks: school news, calendars, correspondence, and flyers about activities and programs. Now the information can go directly to parents and guardians who subscribe to the e-news service.

The company providing part of the distribution service is called Peachjar. You may have received a welcome email from Peachjar that contained login information. You do not need to login to receive or view school flyers. It is an option for those who wish to manage their own settings.

Our e-news system is used exclusively for distribution of school-approved information. Your email address will not be shared or used for any other purpose.

If you have questions about our new e-news distribution service, please contact the school office or email Marla Sanchez at msanchez [at] campbellusd.org.

Sherman Oaks Elementary School is now implementing a 90/10 Dual Language Immersion Model (Spanish/Eng.), which is proven by research and is field-tested, to be the most effective instructional approach of dual language education.  During the 2015-16 school year, we are officialy transitioning from the former 50/50 approach to a 90/10 model with our Kindergarten and first grade classes.   We will gradually increase each year as we progress through the grades until we reach 50/50 in fourth through sixth grade.  This is exciting news as the whole school benefits from an "upgraded" instructional approach aligned to the Common Core State Standards that meets the demands of the 21st century. A Message from Superintendent Andrew

Federal Court Judge Kimberly Mueller held a hearing to amend her recent ruling pertaining to the protocol for releasing personally identifiable student information by the California Department of Education (CDE). She noted that the large number of objections the court has already received did indicate a high level of concern from the public.

The amended protocol calls for a court-appointed special master for discovery who will have to approve which data the plaintiffs can receive from the California Longitudinal Pupil Achievement Data System (CaLPADS) database. More details are on the district website. (www.campbellusd.org)

The responses will help us refine our programs to meet the needs of our students and parents by providing an educational experience that is “beyond the expected” at each of our schools and supporting programs.

A message from the Superintendent

Dear Sherman Oaks Families:

I am writing to let you know about some changes that will be coming to Sherman Oaks this summer.

Principal Will Flores has informed us that he will be moving out of the area at the end of the school year to be closer to and spend more time with family. He remains committed to ensuring that students receive rigorous, quality education through the end of the school year.

Our Human Resources staff will begin the search process for the new principal.  That process includes gathering input from Sherman Oaks staff and families about the qualities to consider for the next principal of Sherman Oaks Community Charter School.

Sincerely,

Eric Andrew, Ed.D., Superintendent
